Andrew Farr
Andrew Farr is a founding partner of Trindade Farr & Pill and a Law Institute of Victoria specialist in workplace relations law. Andrew provides legal and strategic advice in employment and industrial relations matters.
He has a detailed understanding of the needs of human resources practitioners and the employment issues which confront managers.
Andrew has widespread industry experience. His clients operate in a range of sectors including manufacturing, aviation, higher education, public sector, professional services, engineering, logistics, technology, financial services and chemical industries.
From July 1998 until December 1999 Andrew was seconded as an Employee Relations Consultant to Ansett Australia. During this time Andrew was responsible for managing Ansett's industrial relations and employment legal matters. In addition, Andrew has worked in an in-house capacity with Exxon Mobil and the NT office of the Public Services Commissioner.
Skills and Experience:
Andrew Farr has particular experience in strategic planning and management of industrial relations. He works in all aspects of industrial relations and employment law and he regularly appears for clients in industrial tribunals.
Andrew has guided employers through a significant range of legal issues. These include:
- Successfully seeking a Federal Court of Australia injunction prohibiting unprotected industrial action whilst conducting complementary proceedings in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
- Advising in relation to WorkChoices and Forward with Fairness compliance issues including reviewing company policy and procedures and conducting training of managers.
- Being part of the negotiating team for a number of enterprise bargaining agreements across a variety of industries and Unions.
- Advising a large manufacturer about the risks of a large scale restructure and assisting the employer with the on-going implementation strategy.
- Drafting a suite of employment contracts and contractor agreements for an employer with 14 different awards.
- Conducting numerous unfair dismissal hearings and jurisdictional objections in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
- Conducting an investigation into a serious occupational health and safety risk including making numerous recommendations for changes within the workplace.
- Successfully settling many discrimination complaints where there was significant legal risk and where there was significant potential for embarrassment for the employer.
Relevant Presentations and Publications:
Andrew is regularly called upon to conduct internal and external training courses. Most recently, Andrew has conducted equal opportunity training for all Australian employees of a major technology company and has conducted "Manager's Toolkit" training for the human resources department of a major manufacturing client, including tackling issues such as dispute resolution, dismissal and discipline and equal opportunity.
Andrew has also had a number of articles published in journals such as the Australian Financial Review, Occupational Health, Employment Law Bulletin and HR Monthly
